About

The mission of the Clare County Historical Society is to preserve, advance, and disseminate the history of Clare County, Michigan.

The society operates a historical complex which includes a museum, the Dover one-room schoolhouse, Ott Family Log Cabin, Bell-Knapp Cabin, and a blacksmith shop.

Our complex is located at the corner of Dover Road and Eberhart Avenue, five miles north and one mile east of Clare (see map below). We are open Saturdays in May through September from 1 – 4 p.m. We are also open for group or family tours by appointment during the week, as our docents’ schedules allow.

7050 S Eberhart Ave, Clare, MI 48617

We also have old photos, books, newspapers, and documents. Access to these is by appointment.

Visit us on Facebook for more news and information.

Society board meetings are the first Wednesday of the month (April – October) at 7 p.m. at the museum. All are welcome.
